Lesnes Abbey is a unique urban oasis which has the ruins of a 12th century abbey, extensive ancient woodlands, a fossil pit and an area for recreation. The Park is 88 hectares in size, with 69 hectares of woods.
In December 2011 the London Borough of Bexley was awarded a Parks for People grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to help enhance this area through improved accessibility, signage, habitat management and the running of community events.
We work closely with the Lesnes Abbey team to develop and deliver their education programme using the natural environment to engage classes in curriculum based topics of science, geography and history.

North West Kent Countryside Partnership has been working with the Kent Orchards For Everyone project which has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The project aims to celebrate the heritage of our orchards along with preserving these important habitats through community engagement, education and volunteering. We have been helping to deliver events and activities which have included workshops, bat walks, botanical surveys, visiting the annual wassail along with involving schools through educational sessions on topics such as pollinators and food growing.
