NWKCP helped to establish the Sevenoaks Men’s Shed. The group is now self-sufficient and meets up twice a week to enjoy woodwork and cups of tea, and to learn new skills and make useful things for the community.
The Shedders are based at a well-equipped workshop at Abacus. The workshop is a friendly place with a break area where members can chat. The members include people with experience in joinery who can pass their skills on and others who are still learning. They produce items such as bird and bat boxes which we use in our projects, and have also provided bird box kits to primary schools for children to make. They also find ingenious ways of recycling old timber and broken furniture to create new items, and can make furniture to order.
The Shed is open to both men and women over the age of 18 with no upper age limit. It is free apart from a suggested donation of £1 to the tea kitty each session.
If you are interested in joining, know someone who might be, or want the Shedders to make something for you, just call in at Abacus on a Shed day to have a look (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-1.30). The address is:
Abacus Furniture Project, Greatness Lane, Sevenoaks TN14 5BQ.
